    Wings Air Flight Shot at During Landing in Papua

    1Berita NewsWings Air flight IW-1646 was shot at while landing at Nop Goliat Dekai Airport, Yahukimo Regency, Papua, on Saturday (17/2) at 13:20 WIT.

    The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, stated that the ATR 700 type aircraft was shot at as it was preparing to land from Runway 25 towards the Brasa river end.

    “The information we received indicates that the aircraft was hit by gunfire on the left side, which penetrated into the aircraft body,” Benny said in a written statement.

    Benny confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident, but one passenger named Pratu Ongen suffered minor injuries.

    “Passenger Pratu Ongen suffered abrasions due to being hit by aircraft wall fragments,” he said.

    He stated that security forces from Operation Cartenz Peace 2024, along with personnel from Brimob Yon D and Yahukimo District Police, are currently investigating the shooting incident, including scouring the Brasa River Area near the airport, which is suspected to be the shooter’s location.

    “We have conducted a crime scene investigation and interviewed the flight crew. We are also coordinating with relevant parties to follow up on this case and pursue the perpetrators of the shooting,” Benny said.
