1Berita – The Yogyakarta Special Region Police (DIY) plans to limit the number of visitors in the areas of Tugu, Malioboro, and the Yogyakarta Palace (Gumaton) during the New Year’s Eve night in 2024.
The Chief of DIY Regional Police, Inspector General Suwondo Nainggolan, stated that the number of visitors in these areas will be restricted to a maximum of 250 thousand people.
“It shouldn’t be too crowded, at least if there are people at the location simultaneously, that’s the maximum,” Suwondo said at the Sheraton Hotel in Sleman, DIY, on Thursday (28/12).
Suwondo mentioned that they will monitor visitors and vehicles in the Gumaton area through surveillance cameras or CCTV installed at various points and connected to the ‘Yogyakarta Smart City’ technology.
According to him, tourists will be redirected to other points if the number of visitors in the Gumaton area approaches the maximum limit.
“We have a database that can take follow-up actions to prevent entry into that area,” he said.
Suwondo mentioned that smart camera technology is currently undergoing a trial period in the Malioboro area and is scheduled to be officially launched in early January 2024.
This smart camera technology not only counts the number of people and vehicles but also maps visitors based on gender.
“It’s still in the trial phase, but it’s already usable,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Traffic of DIY Regional Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurizal, added that Smart City technology CCTV has been installed at 17 locations along the Gumaton area.
Alfian stated that during the New Year’s Eve transition night in the Malioboro and Tugu areas, a car-free night will be implemented from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
“We are evaluating; last year during the New Year’s transition at Tugu and Titik Nol, there was crowding, especially among people who laid out mats in preparation, along with two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle users,” Alfian said.
