1Berita News – Thailand and China have officially agreed to waive visa requirements for travelers between the two countries starting Friday (1/3). This move comes as both nations seek to boost the recovery of their respective tourism industries.
Under this new arrangement, Chinese passport holders are granted visa-free travel and a maximum stay of 30 days per entry in Thailand, and vice versa.
According to VnExpress, a total stay of 90 days is permitted if there are multiple entries within 180 days.
The Global Times reported that through the travel website Trip.com, the number of bookings by visitors from Thailand to China on Friday (1/3) tripled compared to the previous year.
Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, and Beijing are among the main destinations in China for visitors from Thailand.
According to Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, China has regained its position as the primary source market for foreign tourists to Thailand this year, with over 1.1 million arrivals as of February 25th.
Meanwhile, Thailand received nearly 6 million foreign visitors during the same period.
This year, Thailand aims to welcome 8 million Chinese tourists, doubling the figure from last year. Last year, Malaysia surpassed China as the largest source of tourists to Thailand.
