1Berita News – A private jet crashed onto a highway in Florida, United States, on Friday (2/9/2024), resulting in two fatalities.
Two minutes before the crash, the plane’s pilot contacted air traffic control via radio because both engines had failed.
“The pilot requested an emergency landing,” said airport spokesperson Robin King to AFP in a statement.
“The air traffic controller immediately granted the plane permission to land when the pilot indicated that he would not reach the runway and attempted an emergency landing,” he added.
It is known that five people were aboard the Bombardier Challenger 600 aircraft when it crashed around 3:15 PM local time on Interstate 75 near the small town of Naples, according to the Federal Aviation Administration on social media X.
According to Robin King, three people survived the crash. However, two fatalities occurred due to the impact.
Local authorities have not yet determined whether the aircraft collided with vehicles on the highway.
Meanwhile, images broadcasted on local media show the wreckage of the burnt aircraft on the roadside, emitting black smoke.
“The plane departed from Ohio State University Airport,” revealed King.
As a result of the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
