en.1berita.com – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has stated that his ministry is currently preparing for the shipment of an Indonesian hospital ship to Palestine. Prabowo mentioned that the Indonesian government has coordinated with all parties involved.
“Everything is being prepared (field hospitals and others). Initially, we will send logistical aid,” said Prabowo after overseeing the departure of KRI dr Radjiman from the Kolinlamil dock in North Jakarta on Thursday (18/1/2024).
Prabowo explained that the current focus is on delivering logistics with KRI dr Radjiman. He mentioned that coordination has already taken place regarding this logistical shipment.
“(Security) has been coordinated with the surroundings, and all preparations have been made,” Prabowo expressed.
He further explained that Egypt has not yet granted permission for the shipment of the hospital ship. He acknowledged understanding the stance of the Egyptian government, which is concerned about the people of Gaza.
“We have to understand that there is a major war going on there. Thousands of people have died, hundreds of thousands have lost their homes. So we have to understand the pressure the government is facing there,” Prabowo clarified.
“They are worried that the people of Gaza will be expelled from their homes. They will cross into Egypt, and eventually, the Palestinian population will be expelled again. So, that’s their concern. They are worried that their ship could become a refuge for refugees. Now, we negotiate to send a field hospital. Of course, this also has to be negotiated with all parties there,” he concluded.
It is known that the Indonesian hospital ship has not been able to dock to aid victims in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. Prabowo mentioned that the Egyptian government has not granted permission because many ships are queuing at the port.
Prabowo admitted that this has been reported to President Joko Widodo. He continues to contact the Egyptian Defense Minister regarding this matter.
Prabowo stated that the government is also considering sending a field hospital. He mentioned that this plan will soon be discussed with President Jokowi.
“In this case, I will report to the President, and there is also advice from some parties in the surrounding countries, if possible, a field hospital. So, we are discussing whether to send a field hospital,” said Prabowo.
