1Berita – Prabowo Subianto, is considering the option of importing hundreds of dairy cows to meet the needs of the free milk program for children.
He estimates that around 1.5 million cows may be imported to fulfill the requirements of providing free milk to 82 million Indonesian children.
“So, we might have to import 1 million or 1.5 million cows. In two years, they will give birth, and we will have 3 million. That’s roughly our strategy,” Prabowo said during a discussion with the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at the Council of Press Building, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (4/1).
Prabowo anticipates that the children will be provided with free milk at 500 milliliters per person or about 40 million liters in total.
To meet this demand, he mentioned that the 1 million to 1.5 million imported cows would reproduce in two years, doubling their numbers.
“So, we would need at least dairy cows, maybe a minimum of 2.5 million,” he said.
He plans to import cows from Brazil or India. However, he explained that cows from Brazil would be much more expensive than those from India. Additionally, the shipment of cows from Brazil would take longer compared to from India.
“If from India, maybe only 20 days, and the price, I think, is reasonable. We can import more from India; we need it to provide milk to our children,” he stated.
The free lunch and milk program is part of the ‘8 Best Rapid Results Programs’ in the vision and mission of Asta Cita, promoted by Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 presidential election.
The program is designed to combat stunting in Indonesia, targeting more than 80 million beneficiaries with 100% coverage by 2029.
During the campaign period, Prabowo-Gibran have actively been promoting this program, distributing free milk to the public as part of their outreach efforts.
