1Berita News – Secretary General (Sekjen) of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto emphasizes that PDIP is ready to become the government’s opposition in the upcoming period.
This statement follows the quick count results which noted the lead of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 Presidential Election. Hasto mentioned that PDIP has a long experience as an opposition, notably after the 2004 and 2009 Elections.
“When PDI Perjuangan was outside the government in 2004 and 2009, we were greatly appreciated for our role in enhancing the quality of democracy. Indeed, being outside the government is a patriotic duty for defending the interests of the people themselves,” said Hasto in a written statement on Thursday (15/2).
He stated that opposition political parties are important for carrying out the function of checks and balances against the government.
According to Hasto, reflecting on the two terms of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) administration, centralized power tends to lead to manipulative capabilities.
He also mentioned that PDIP is ready to fight both through the party factions in parliament and institutionally within the party.
“Because whatever happens in the national political dynamics, we have an obligation to convey what is happening to the people,” he said.
However, Hasto admitted that PDIP will not remain silent about several allegations of fraud during the recent election process.
He highlighted voters abroad who faced difficulties in casting their votes due to administrative technicalities. Hasto believes that allegations of fraud during the election occur from top to bottom.
“Fraud from top to bottom indeed happened. However, we are facing two things. First, those who want to make this democracy the sovereignty of the people without any intervention. Then, those driven by power ambitions, and this starts with legal engineering in the Constitutional Court,” he said.
The interim quick count results from several survey institutions place Prabowo-Gibran as the winners of the 2024 Presidential Election. The pair of number 2 significantly surpassed Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
For example, the latest quick count from Litbang Kompas noted that Prabowo-Gibran garnered 58.60 percent of the votes. The Presidential Election is predicted to be completed in one round.
