1Berita News – Mount Dukono in North Maluku (Malut) erupted and spewed volcanic ash up to 2.7 kilometers (km) from the center of the crater of the mountain.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption occurred this afternoon at 10:50 WIT.
Mount Dukono Observation Post officer, Bambang Sugiono, stated that the eruption resulted in a thick ash column heading north.
“The amplitude was 27 millimeters with a duration of 94.66 seconds,” he said in a report received in Jakarta on Saturday.
PVMBG urged the community not to engage in activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Mount Dukono crater within a 3 km radius.
“The community is advised to always have masks ready to avoid the threat of volcanic ash to the respiratory system,” the appeal read.
