1Berita News – Mahfud Md admitted to resigning from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs due to ethical considerations. Mahfud stated that he does not have any expectations regarding other presidential or vice-presidential candidates regarding his resignation.
“I have no expectations regarding other candidates. I met with the president and requested to resign because of my ethics. It is not related to the ethics of other ministers. My ethics, I was appointed with full respect by the President,” Mahfud said during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs on Thursday (2/1/2024).
Mahfud mentioned that he felt he had been working well for over four years. Mahfud reiterated the ethics regarding his resignation as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
“These were the tasks assigned to me by Mr. Mahfud, and these were the presidential decrees. I have worked well with him for 4.5 years, so I have ethics. When I am going to resign, I will not announce it publicly before I talk to the president,” he said.
“Since the 23rd, I said I would wait for the right moment. What is the moment? Well, I will meet the president first because of my ethics,” he continued.
Furthermore, Mahfud expressed that when he was initially appointed as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, it was done with respect. Therefore, he also wanted to resign with respect.
“I was appointed with respect, so I have to bid farewell with respect so that it’s not just abrupt. Regarding the ethics of other ministers, no, I’m not touching on that, and it’s not my concern. This is my ethics towards the president, not towards other ministers,” he added.
