1Berita English – President Joko Widodo considers the third debate of the 2024 presidential election to be non-educational due to the numerous personal attacks.
According to him, attacking each other is acceptable in a debate as long as it revolves around policies or visions, not personal matters.
“It’s fine to attack each other, but it should be about policies, not personal motives to bring each other down. I think it’s not good and not educational,” said Jokowi in Serang as quoted by detik.com on Monday (1/8).
Jokowi believes that the public must be disappointed with the third debate held by the KPU on Sunday night (1/7).
He suggests that the KPU needs to improve the debate format to make it more educational for the wider public.
“I think many will be disappointed, so the debate needs a better format with guidelines to make it lively,” he said.
The General Election Commission (KPU) held the third debate of the 2024 presidential election on Sunday night (1/7) at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
The three presidential candidates presenting their ideas were Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo. The debate’s theme revolved around defense, security, geopolitics, international relations, and foreign policy.
Each presidential candidate was given time to present their vision and mission at the beginning of the debate. Afterward, questions from the panelists were read by the moderator, followed by a question and answer segment between the candidates.
The debate was moderated by two journalists from the MNC Group, Anisha Dasuki and Ariyo Ardi. MNC Group and Garuda TV were chosen as the television stations broadcasting the debate.
In the third debate, Prabowo Subianto engaged in heated arguments with Anies Baswedan several times. They had intense debates until Ganjar Pranowo felt like the one cooling the atmosphere.
