1Berita News – In a humanitarian effort, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has overseen the departure of KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992, a naval vessel carrying aid for the people in Gaza, Palestine. The ship, loaded with essential supplies such as food, blankets, clothing, baby equipment, women’s attire, milk, field tents, hygiene items, mineral water, and religious provisions, was sent off from the Mako Kolinlamil in North Jakarta.
Prabowo emphasized the vessel’s 15-day mission, aiming to deliver aid to Gaza through the port of Al Arish in Egypt, with subsequent distribution by the Egyptian Red Crescent.
The journey, spanning 52 days with stops in Jakarta, Belawan, Al Arish, Jeddah, and Batam, involves 214 Indonesian Navy personnel as part of the Muhibah/Port Visit to Egypt 2024 task force. While there are negotiations for potential continued service in Gaza after aid delivery, Prabowo indicated that the vessel, serving as a hospital ship, may return to Indonesia after completing its mission.
Acknowledging the risks, especially through the conflict-prone Red Sea, Prabowo reassured that, as a non-aligned nation supporting Palestine, Indonesia need not fear conflict with nations like Yemen in the region.
Expressing gratitude to contributors like Baznas and CT Arsa Foundation, Prabowo affirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to aiding Palestine. The initiative comes amid a prolonged and devastating Israeli aggression in Gaza, lasting over 100 days since October 7, 2023.
The continuous attacks have displaced and harmed a significant portion of the Palestinian population, leading to widespread homelessness, hunger, and limited access to healthcare. The death toll has surpassed 24,100 people, with 60,834 reported injuries, marking a tragic toll on the 2.3 million pre-conflict population of Gaza.
Indonesia’s mission not only underscores its commitment to humanitarian principles but also aligns with its stance of supporting Palestine in the face of prolonged conflict and the dire consequences suffered by its people.
The departure of the naval vessel signifies a tangible effort to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and contribute to international relief efforts.
