1Berita.com – Cigarette Prices Rise Starting January 1, 2024, Following the Ministry of Finance’s Decision to Increase Tobacco Excise Duties (CHT) by an Average of 10 Percent at the beginning of this year.
The rules for this increase are outlined in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 191 of 2022 regarding the Excise Tariff on Tobacco Products such as Cigarettes, Cigars, Hand-Rolled Cigarettes, or Klobot, and Cut Tobacco (TIS).
Article 2, paragraph (2) letter b of the PMK stipulates that the official increase takes effect from today.
“The Retail Selling Price per Stick or Gram and the excise tariff per stick or gram of domestically manufactured tobacco products as stated in Annex I letter B of this Ministerial Regulation shall apply from January 1, 2024,” reads the regulation.
Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, the Director of Communication and User Guidance at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, stated that the CHT policy for 2024 continues to follow the multi-year policy outlined in PMK Number 191 of 2022 and PMK Number 192 of 2022 for electronic cigarettes (REL) and Other Tobacco Processing Results (HPTL).
“In general, the excise tariff for cigarettes increases by an average of 10 percent, and for REL, it increases by 15 percent,” he told CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (18/12).
“The excise tariff policy for 2024 continues to consider the four pillars of the CHT Policy, namely consumption control, industry sustainability, revenue targets, and the eradication of illegal cigarettes,” he added.
