Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, extends an apology to the residents for the viral ‘lampu pocong’ project. He admits that the project is the first one declared a total loss in Medan City.

“We, in this matter, certainly apologize to the public because it went viral, not because we did it. We apologize to the public,” he said after the handover of IDR 7.8 billion at the Medan Prosecutor’s Office on Friday (29/12/2023).

“However, this needs to be done in Medan City, why? Maybe this is the first time, and doing this is probably the first time done by the Medan City Government,” he continued.

According to Bobby, the recovered money will be deposited into Bank Sumut. He also expressed gratitude for the hard work of the Medan Prosecutor’s Office in collecting money for the ‘lampu pocong’ project.

“We thank and appreciate the Attorney of Medan City who, according to us, has been extraordinary in supporting and assisting us, the Medan City Government, in collecting the money. Alhamdulillah, today it has been collected and handed over to us, and it will be directly deposited into the government account and then handed over to Bank Sumut,” he said.

In addition, Bobby revealed that, according to the inspection by the Inspectorate of Medan City, the physical value of the ‘lampu pocong’ is only around IDR 15 billion. However, the money handed over by the Medan City Government has reached IDR 21 billion.

The Head of the Medan Prosecutor’s Office, Muttaqin Harahap, hopes that after the handover of IDR 7.8 billion to the Medan City Government, the issue of the ‘lampu pocong’ project can be resolved.

“Today, we handed it over; hopefully, the issue of the ‘lampu pocong’ can be resolved because the payment to the Medan City Government has been completed and handed over to the Medan City Government,” he said.

He explained that the IDR 7.8 billion is the money collected from three contractors of the ‘lampu pocong’ project on Sudirman Street, Diponegoro Street, and Imam Bonjol Street. Meanwhile, the contractors on Gatot Subroto Street, Putri Hijau Street, Brigjend Katamso Street, Juanda Street, and Suprapto Street have returned the money to the Medan City SDABMBK Department.”
