1Berita News – the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (BAKTI Kominfo) has affirmed its commitment to law enforcement after being associated with a bribery case involving the German software company SAP, currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The commitment was expressed by Sudarmanto, Head of the Public Relations and Human Resources Division at BAKTI Kominfo, who stated that the agency is dedicated to supporting legal proceedings related to the SAP case.
BAKTI Kominfo, formerly known as BP3TI, has undergone organizational changes and modernized its business processes, including the adoption of SAP software in 2018, valued at Rp12.6 billion.
Despite the allegations against SAP, BAKTI Kominfo emphasizes that the contract with SAP was conducted through a transparent and accountable planning and procurement process, in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
The U.S. Department of Justice disclosed that SAP will pay over US$220 million to settle the investigation, which revealed violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) due to a bribery scheme involving government officials in South Africa and Indonesia.
In the Indonesian context, SAP was found to have engaged in bribery to gain unfair business advantages in various contracts with government departments and institutions, including the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and BAKTI Kominfo.
Additionally, BAKTI Kominfo highlighted the continuity of certain officials from its predecessor, BP3TI, indicating that organizational changes did not entail a complete overhaul of personnel.
Notably, Fadhilah Mathar, previously the General Director of BP3TI, assumed the role of Director of Resources and Administration at BAKTI, while Anang Latif, the former CEO of BP3TI, continued his role as the CEO of BAKTI.
This news also brings attention to the broader implications of corruption cases, as Anang Latif is mentioned in a separate corruption case related to the construction of 4G BTS towers, with losses to the state estimated at around Rp8 trillion. The case has also implicated former Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Johnny G Plate.
