1Berita News – The Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) has captured Japanese citizen Yusuke Yamazaki (YY), a suspect in a fraud case who was wanted by Interpol in the Batam area.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner Erdi Chaniago, explained that the arrest was made by the Batam Water Police Patrol (Satpolairud Polresta Barelang) while patrolling the waters of Bulan Island, Batam, on Wednesday (1/31).
During the patrol, he mentioned that officers found a boat containing one skipper, one crew member (ABK), one foreign passenger, and four Indonesian passengers.
“After interrogation at sea, there was suspicion of non-procedural Indonesian Migrant Workers heading to Malaysia against the four Indonesian passengers,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (2/22).
Based on the interrogation results, Erdi said all crew members and passengers were taken to the Balerang Police Resort (Polresta Balerang) for further examination regarding suspected illegal crossings.
Subsequently, on Friday (2/2), the investigators of the Batam Water Police Patrol handed over the unidentified foreign national on the boat to the Batam Special Class I Immigration Office (TPI Batam).
To immigration officers, the foreign national initially claimed to be Hajime Hatanaka, born in Nagoya, Japan, on March 15, 1984, with passport number MU9811812.
However, Erdi stated that from the examination results, it was revealed that the true identity of the foreign national in question was Yusuke Yamazaki, listed in Interpol’s Wanted Persons List (DPO) Number: B-3931/12-2022 for alleged fraud violations.
“We found that the true identity of the detained foreign national with the initials YY was born in Miyatsu, Kyoto, Japan on January 28, 1981,” he explained.
He added that Yusuke’s escape to Indonesia was carried out on April 2, 2021, through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport using passport number TR3821024.
Erdi further added that the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Hubinter) is currently coordinating with the Japanese Police regarding the repatriation of the fugitive.
“The Indonesian National Police has coordinated with the immigration authorities, and our communication with the Japanese police through Interpol is very good,” he concluded.
The Japanese police had previously requested the assistance of the Indonesian National Police in apprehending fraud suspect Yusuke Yamazaki (42), who was believed to have fled to Indonesia.
Yusuke Yamazaki is the president of Nishiyama Farm company. The company is engaged in managing a tourist farm in Akaiwa City, Okayama Prefecture.
The Japanese police had sought the assistance of the Indonesian National Police since December 2022. However, the formal request was only submitted on March 1, 2023.
Yusuke is suspected of committing fraud in Japan by claiming to purchase products with the promise of paying large dividends if individuals invested in the fruit sales business overseas.
