1Berita News – Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, has resigned from his position as the Chief Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero).
He stepped down to have more freedom in supporting the presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
He uploaded his resignation letter on his official Instagram account.
“This post serves as proof of receipt of my resignation letter as the Chief Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero) which I submitted today, February 2, 2024,” Ahok said in the caption of the post.
In the post, Ahok also assured that his resignation is a response to the political direction that may have confused many parties.
“This is to avoid any further confusion regarding my political stance,” Ahok said.
Ahok, known to the public as a close ally of President Joko Widodo in the political arena, has also served as the deputy governor of DKI Jakarta alongside Jokowi for approximately two years.
Shortly after Jokowi ran for president and was elected in 2014, Ahok assumed the position of Governor. However, in his second term, Ahok failed to secure the governorship after losing to the Anies-Sandiaga pair.
He even faced legal troubles and was imprisoned for two years on charges of blasphemy.
After being released from prison, he was appointed as the Chief Commissioner of Pertamina until he resigned to support Ganjar-Mahfud.
