1Berita News – The Houthi militia in Yemen assures that it will not attack Russian and Chinese ships passing through the Red Sea. They ensure the safety of these countries’ vessels as freedom of navigation plays a crucial role for them.
Houthi senior official Mohammed Al Bukhaiti stated that ships navigating the waters around Yemen will be safe as long as they are not associated with specific countries, particularly Israel.
“As for other countries, including Russia and China, their shipments in this region are not threatened,” Al Bukhaiti said in an interview with Russian media, as quoted by Izvestia.
On the other hand, Al Bukhaiti emphasized that attacks on ships affiliated with Israel will continue. This decision comes after the Houthi began targeting ships believed to be connected to Israel in the Red Sea following Israel’s aggression in Gaza.
Houthi declared their intention to target ships affiliated with the United States and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea. These attacks are said to persist until Israel ceases its assault on Palestine.
Meanwhile, the United Nations (UN) previously issued a resolution urging the Houthi to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea. However, the Houthi disregarded the resolution.
Bukhaiti explained that the Houthi’s goal is not to capture or sink specific ships but to increase economic costs for Israel, compelling them to cease the massacre in Gaza.
Bukhaiti also discussed the capture of the commercial ship Galaxy Leader last November, stating that it was a preventive measure to ensure compliance with Houthi requirements. He added that the crew of the detained Galaxy Leader is in good health.
