1Berita English – The Otake Volcano on Suwanose Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan, erupted around midnight local time on Sunday (14/1).
As of now, there have been no reported casualties, injuries, or damage. Evacuation orders for residents have not been announced.
Nevertheless, the Japan Meteorological Agency urges individuals in the vicinity of the volcano to ‘exercise restraint from entering the danger zone.’
AFP, citing information from Japanese media Kyodo, explains that there is a ‘potential for large rocks to be ejected into the air within a radius of about 2 kilometers from the crater.’
NHK reports that the Japan Meteorological Agency has raised the eruption danger level to three out of the maximum five.
Earlier this year, Japan experienced a major disaster with a magnitude 7.5 earthquake shaking Ishikawa Prefecture, claiming the lives of over 200 people. Additionally, a magnitude 6 earthquake occurred in Niigata Prefecture last week.
