1Berita English – The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) has raised the alert status of Mount Lewotobi in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, from alert (level III) to caution (level IV) since Tuesday (9/1) at 23:00 WITA.
Due to the increased status, residents are urged to immediately evacuate or vacate Dulipali Village in Ile Bura District.
“For now, one sector village in the northwest-north must be evacuated. According to the KRB map, that is Dulipali Village,” said Chairman of the Mount Lewotobi Observation Post, Herman Yosep, in East Flores on Wednesday (10/1) early morning, as reported by Antara.
Visually, from January 1 to 9, 2024, volcanic activity was detected at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki. The observations show an increase in the height of the eruption column to a maximum of 1,500 meters from the eruption center located in the northwest-north area of the crater.
Furthermore, PVMBG has also observed the presence of flames in the main crater. Lava sparks have been seen erupting from the summit.
Tremor activity has continuously recorded an increase in amplitude, indicating an escalation in eruption energy.
Herman advises that people refrain from any activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the eruption center and a 5-kilometer sector in the northwest-north direction.
According to the mapping conducted by the Nusa Tenggara Volcano Monitoring and Disaster Mitigation Agency for Landslides, Dulipali Village is one of the villages within the lava flow path.
