1Berita – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declares that there will be no peace until the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, is eradicated. Netanyahu made this statement in an op-ed published by The Wall Street Journal on Monday night (December 25).
“Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarized, and the Palestinian society must be deradicalized. These are the three prerequisites for peace between Israel and its neighbor, Palestine in Gaza,” said Netanyahu.
He explained that demilitarization in Gaza would require the establishment of a temporary security zone around it.
“In the future, Israel must continue to bear the primary security responsibility in Gaza,” he added.
Netanyahu’s remarks came after his visit to Gaza, followed by a meeting with the Likud Party, where he emphasized that the fight against Hamas would not cease until they are obliterated. Israeli forces have intensified their bombardment of Gaza.
“We will intensify the battle in the coming days,” Netanyahu stated in a Likud party release, as quoted by AFP.
He also expressed support for the subtle expulsion of Palestinian residents with the narrative of “voluntary migration.”
However, this plan raises questions about which country would accommodate the people from Gaza.
In response to Netanyahu’s efforts, Hamas refused to engage in discussions and deemed the actions unreasonable.
“[Palestinian residents] reject deportation and relocation. There can be no expulsion, and there is no option other than to stay in our land,” stated Hamas.
Israel’s plan comes to light as Zionist forces continue to strike Gaza since October 7. During the operation, they targeted civilians and civilian facilities such as refugee camps and hospitals. The impact of Israel’s attacks has resulted in the deaths of over 20,000 people in Palestine.
The ongoing Israeli assaults have led some to assess that Israel aims to control Palestine.
