1Berita – A news anchor at Turkish TV station TGRT, Meltem Gunay, was fired on Sunday (24/12) after appearing on air with a Starbucks coffee cup next to her.
Turkish television viewers expressed anger at Gunay for using a pro-Israel product during the broadcast, at a time when the majority of the Muslim world is boycotting such products.
In a statement, TGRT announced the dismissal of Gunay and the news segment director due to the inappropriate placement of the product.
The pro-government media network also acknowledged the sensitivity of the Turkish people regarding Gaza and affirmed their commitment to stand with Gaza until the end.
Starbucks has been caught up in the boycott by Muslim communities worldwide as a symbol of solidarity with Israel during the Zionist State’s aggression in the Gaza Strip.
Although Starbucks does not operate in Israel, the company has gained a pro-Israel image due to its rejection of anti-Israel statements made by one of its unions in the early stages of the aggression.
In October, the company sued Starbucks Workers United for using the Starbucks logo in a statement expressing support for Palestine.
